Mariah Carey to Launch a Fragrance Line

Posted by Ariel Cherie

From The BVX – Mariah Carey is digging for gold again. And not in the form of a new album or with a second husband (We see you @NickCannon) but with her forthcoming perfume line, entitled ‘Lollipop Bling’ (yes, we think the name is horrible too).

With the highest margin of any celebrity branded product, perfume, means big cash for celebs, making anywhere from $2 million to $5 million upfront. While Carey is already able to spritz a few of her own perfumes around her neck — including M by Mariah Carey, M by Mariah Carey Gold, Luscious Pink, and Forever (count those dollar signs!) — she’s looking for more.

Elizabeth Arden holds Carey’s fragrance license and they have partnered up with Bazooka Candy Brands, a division of Topps Company, Inc. (they make Ring Pops) to produce the set of fragrances.

The selection of Lollipop Bling scents will smell like candy and the name was inspired by her hubby Nick Cannon’s marriage proposal. He gave her a Ring Pop — which we’re thinking she probably scoffed at (or stomped on) when she realized it was candy and not a honking purple diamond.

Spring Trends 2010: Two-Tone Sunglasses

Posted by Ariel Cherie

It’s been rainy in the Northeast this week, but that doesn’t mean we can’t think about the sun! I love big, huge sunnies that take up my face. Sunglasses are ‘re a lot cooler than they go beyond basic black, and there are a lot of fun prints out there to try and some with solid colors in case the others are too wild for you. (above, $5.80, forever21.com.)

House of Harlow, $125, shopkitson.com.

Ray Ban, $140, net-a-porter.com.

Betsey Johnson, $65, nordstrom.com.

Gucci, $245, nordstrom.com.

Nearly naked

Maybe naked isn’t the right word, but nude (the shade, that is) is in. It can go with practically anything, but honestly, the color stands on it’s own. You can pair nude with nude, or other basic colors (black mostly).

The shoes above, by Guess, I’ve had since last summer, but it goes to show you that you don’t have to keep buying and buying to keep up with things. I’ve been shopping my closet actually, but I still like to buy things too. I’ve worn these shoes with a lot of colors like blue, black, and pink and they all look good with nude.

Top, One September, $78, anthropologie.com.

Lip gloss, Cover Girl Wet Slicks in Fig Splash, 6.99, Target. Nude isn’t just limited to clothes.

Eye shadow, Too Faced, $34, sephora.com.

Which celebrity fragrance will you choose?

Posted by Ariel Cherie

Everybody and their mama have their own fragrances nowadays. It’s unbelievable to go down the list of celebrities that have their own perfume.

J.Lo was the real force behind this trend for the 21st century when she launched her own perfume Glow by J.Lo back in 2002. It was wildly successful, and she went on to make nine others. But just because it’s successful for one does not mean it will work for all.

For example, I think Queen Latifah’s perfume stinks. And that’s all there is to it. I’m not sure if her intent was to smell like great-grandma, but if it was then mission: accomplished.

Now, I’m not sure what her process was, but I’ve seen it time and time again on E! News. The celeb puts on a lab coat and goggles and stands around with her hands clasped like she really did something while the real workers are dropping little liquid beads into beakers as they swish it around. Then the celeb smells it, and says, “That’s it!” Everyone applauds the celeb; no one mentions the one who mixes.

Among the mediocre, there are two celebrities that have come out with new perfumes, that may or may not be worth it. And of course I’m going to give my opinions!

Kim Kardashian by Kim Kardashian. This smells exactly how you’d expect — sexy, feminine and soft. It’s very warm, and it has floral note, specifically gardenia and orchid. Definitely for nighttime use.  I give this perfume 3.5 sniffs out of 5.

SJP NYC by Sarah Jessica Parker. This fragrance is so much fun! It smells delightful and once you put it on, you’ll probably keep smelling yourself. No lie. It’s so much different from her first two perfumes (and by different, I mean better). It has notes of wild strawberry, gardenia, mandarin, rum, and creamy musks. This is what I imagine what Carrie Bradshaw would have smelled like (if I, uh, actually thought about how Carrie Bradshaw smelled lol). I give this one 5 sniffs out of 5!

Now there are perfumes out there by Halle Berry, Celine Dion, and others, but Kim Kardashian and SJP NYC are worth buying and wearing.

Diddy Does HSN

Posted by Ariel Cherie

I’m definitely on Diddy overload, I don’t know about you. In the last six months, the Bad Boy mogul has had four television shows (I Want to Work for Diddy 2, Making the Band 4, Making His Band, and Starmaker).

According to Women Wear Daily, Diddy will also be appearing on the Home Shopping Network to push his fragrances Unforgivable and I AM KING.

Unlike other companies/celebs who sell their products on HSN, you know Diddy has to be over the top and extra. Instead of spritzing the colognes on models as they parade around, he’s going to make the set look like a talk show and it is going to be all Diddy.

His goal is to sell $400,000 worth of product. Will you be one of those to buy on November 30?
