Obama hates Steve Jobs

Posted by Ariel Cherie

Well, not exactly. Obama gave the commencement speech at Hampton University in Virginia on Sunday where he said our dependency on electronics, iPads, and Xboxes are becoming the demise of our nation.

He believes that we need to catch up on the basics in school since America is 10th in the world for education, and blacks rank 20th people who live in developing countries.

“You’re coming of age in a 24/7 media environment that bombards us will all kinds of content and exposes us to all kinds of arguments, some of which don’t always rank high on the truth meter,” President Obama said. “And with iPods and iPads and Xboxes and PlayStations – none of which I know how to work – information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation. So all of this is not only putting pressure on you; it’s putting pressure on our country and our democracy.”

I have to agree with Obama; I believe we are completely caught up with things that buzz and chirp. I don’t know what I would do without my phone. I check it all the time. If I left the house without my phone on me, I’d drive all the way back to go get it.

Video games aren’t going away. iPads aren’t going away. iPods will only get better over time. Instead of telling us to turn something off that we’re not going to anyway, get the electronics to work at your advantage. You can read books on an iPad, why not make it so textbooks are available electronically. That way it’s cheaper for students, and you can learn at the same time?

We have Wii which is great for fitness. Kids were staying inside all day to play video games, making kids who clogged their controllers with Dorito cheese chunky, so Nintendo made combined physical exercise with video games making it something to enjoy again. See how easy that was?

Let’s change with the times. If the way we’re being taught isn’t catching on, then maybe we need to change the way we teach.
