C-Span Caller Complains that Too Many Black People Call The Show

Posted by Ariel Cherie

From Black Voices written by Dr. Boyce Watkins: On a C-Span show called “The Washington Journal,” a caller raised eyebrows by stating that too many black people are calling in to the show. The caller, a guy named “Bill,” who is a North Carolina Republican, stated that C-Span should change their name to “Black-Span,” because “if they [African Americans] are only 10 or 12 percent of the population, there’s no way they seem to be 80 percent of your callers.”

Bill, who actually doesn’t sound like a dumb person, goes on to say that “Every one of ‘em [African Americans] thinks that Obama is Jesus Christ and they don’t like when anybody criticizes him.”

I listened to Bill’s comments carefully, because I didn’t think he was coming out of left field. Bill’s theory was that it wasn’t an accident that so many of the C-Span callers just happen to be black. He speculated that he and other conservatives would grow tired of watching C-Span if they didn’t make changes to the callers that were allowed to get through the line. One could easily write Bill off as just another North Carolina yahoo who doesn’t know how to keep his mouth shut. In fact, that’s probably what he is, to a point. His language certainly fails the test of political correctness, and his use of broad generalizations is incredibly problematic.

But when we take a deeper look at Bill’s comments, we can notice the following:

1) Bill’s thoughts are not uncommon, especially in places like North Carolina:There is quite a bit of latent racial hostility all throughout the country toward the African-American community and President Obama. Much of this hostility is thinly disguised as a populist movement. The truth is, though, that Bill was one of the few conservatives brave enough to say some of the things that millions of others are thinking.

Waiting to Exhale sequel? Say what?!

After 18 years, author Terry McMillan is releasing a sequel to her bestselling novel Waiting to Exhale called Getting to Happy, according to the Examiner.

In the novel, McMillan follow up with the characters, Bernadine, Savannah, Gloria, and Robin.

It’s said that it might also be turned into a movie. Waiting to Exhale is one of my favorite movies ever, but someimes sequels ruin it for me. Obviously, I wouldn’t want to see anyone other than Whitney, Angela, Lela, or Loretta play the roles. Hopefully it will be as good as the first.

Sunglasses are ‘re a lot cooler than they go beyond basic black, and there are a lot of fun prints out there to try and some with solid colors in case the others are too wild for you. Cuff me

Posted by Ariel Cherie

I love big chunky jewelry, and I never think it goes out of style no matter what they say. Big cuffs (bangles included) are in for the season, and it makes me (and probably Rachel Zoe) very happy too.

There are so many things you can wear it with to jazz up any outfit. I personally love them with dresses, very bohemian chic a la Nicole Richie style. Speaking of Nicole Richie, that’s a cuff (above) from her line House of Harlow, $95. shopkitson.com. Layer them or wear them one at a time or wear it with a long chain necklace. Either way it all looks good.

Cuff, Rachel Rachel Roy, $75, macys.com.

Bangles, $12 each, Decadent Industries.

Cuff, Dannijo, $298, shopbop.com.

Cuff, Erickson Beamon, $315, theoutnet.com. See?? This is that ish I’m talking about. So bold, so dramatic. I love it! This piece stands on it’s own. And it was marked down from $525! It’s got Swarovski crystals and suede lines the inside. Perfection…

Designer who made Lady Gaga’s caution tape outfit gets new Forever 21 line

Posted by Ariel Cherie

Forever 21 is teaming up with designer Brian Lichtenberg for a T-shirt line. He was the one behind Lady Gaga’s caution tape “outfit” for her “Telephone” music video.

According to Women Wear Daily, a spokesperson for the retail store said a collection for graphic T-shirts was in the making, and it should be out in the next few months.

Hopefully, there will be more to those shirts than some damn caution tape. We all love, love, love Gaga, but…. I don’t want to look like her. Just saying.
